Thu Sep 07, 4: Tragically Logitech have discontinued this trackball! The gray-with-red-ball wired USB successor did not last quite as long.
Licensing the Logitech one would be much more convenient for end users, at least for the Left handed and wired model, which Logitech has no competing products for. I tried getting a replacement one from Amazon a used onethat was billed “like new,” but had to send it back because it had the threaded part of a screw hole broken off and loose plastic rattling around in it.

Battery lifespan is superb. Having tried one myself, I definitely wasn’t a fan of the shaping it just shifts the problem from horizontal to vertical and doesn’t solve itand the low quality microswitches start to double-click easily.

There are two styles: I was especially thrilled with the M because mousr scrollwheel could spin freely for “hyper fast” scrolling. It’s possible to open the switch and replace just the thin foil piece that acts as the spring, which is what I’ve done several times in the past, however the replacement ones aren’t any better and it just buys another few months until the issues crop up again.

Mine is still trucking along nicely, but new ones can wear out pretty quickly. No sideways scrolling, the ball is kind of sticky and doesn’t roll smoothly, and the placement of the buttons takes some getting used to.

And getting the replacement spring seated without wrecking its tension is an exercise best left to someone with plenty of time and patience. I’m not as certain. With the Trackman the thumb has close to no lateral movement, similar to most normal mouses.

Ordered this up and I am flying now. We went through an “ergonomics” fad at work and people started buying these. I’ve used the Logitech Cordleds Marble for more than ten years and never looked back.
